Sean Sprague is a Canadian artist based in Los Angeles. His practice examines how coherent pictures and shared understandings are made from partial views. Through construction, fragmentation, staging, and repetition, his work brings different moments and positions into relation to consider how photographs—and the realities they depict—are assembled.

His work has been exhibited at Division Gallery in Toronto, New Release Gallery in New York, Human Resources in Los Angeles, and the Houston Center for Photography. He has received support from the Canada Council for the Arts, Ontario Arts Council, Toronto Arts Council, and Wenner-Gren Foundation. His photographs have appeared in The New Yorker and Time, and he contributed photographs to Alex Blanchette’s Porkopolis: American Animality, Standardized Life, and the Factory Farm, published by Duke University Press.

Sprague studied photography at OCAD University and holds an MFA from UCLA. He currently lectures on media, photography, and contemporary art at UC San Diego.
